How to upload an image into Shopify
There are several cases and possibilities for uploading images into Shopify. You may have only a few images for a few products. Therefore, uploading one by one will work for you. You can go to your Shopify store panel and add images to products easily. If this is the case, this article is not for you, but we still suggest you read it. You may need these tricks in the feature.
The problem starts when you have thousands of images and product pairs. Since adding an image into a product takes approximately 30 to 45 seconds, and if you have 1000 images to upload, you will need 500 to 750 minutes. It takes nearly 10 hours, and you need to upload these images constantly.
On the other hand, if you keep your product images on a CDN, then you can use the CSV import feature of Shopify as well. You can add image URLs for products and variants, and then you can define the prioritization (position) of these images as well. This solution seems easy and quick, but please do not forget that you’ll need to copy & paste thousands of image URLs into a CSV file, which will also take lots of time.
What is Smart Image Upload?
At that point, we have a great solution. As you can understand from its name, Smart Image Upload is a bulk image upload tool that makes it easy to upload all of your product images at once and increase your productivity. You only need to keep your images under Google Drive, and image names shall include the SKU name of the product. It takes care of the rest and uploads all the images in minutes while you’re working on another task or taking a break.
Currently, Smart Image Upload works only for Shopify and uses only Google Drive as the source, but in the feature, it will also work for other e-commerce ecosystems and will use other sources.
How does Smart Image Upload work?
When you add the Smart Image Upload app to your Shopify store, it will ask your permission to access your image folder on your Drive. Since the privacy policy of Google and Shopify, Smart Image Upload only accesses to the folder that you allow, and it only gets images to upload to Shopify. Here are all the steps that you need to do;
- Check the apps section of your Shopify Store and choose Smart Image Upload.
- Connect to Google Drive and choose your image folder.
- Check image names, including the SKU value of your products. You can decide the positioning of images only by using underscore and numbers (i.e., 1st order: SKU1.jpeg/png 2nd order: SKU1_1.jpeg/png 3rd order: SKU1_2.jpeg/png)
- Upload all of your product images at once.
- Check the matches with your products and images, and it’s DONE 🚀
